Shoreline Master Plan Updates

Posted By Dwight on December 28, 2008

Shoreline plans in Washington State are being updated. Much has changed since many of these plans were first created in the 1970s. The City of Sammamish has written a new plan and the City Council will continue work on it in early 2009. After the City Council approves the plan it will go to the State Department of Ecology for review and approval. The new plan should be in effect by Fall of 2009. As a shoreline resident I am following the update closely and will be posting information about the plan here on this website. If you have questions about how the plan might affect your ability to improve or sell your property, please give me a call. I would be happy talk with you about it.

I have also been watching the updates for other Cities in the area and will post links and more information as it becomes available. As of now Redmond has completed their plan and sent it on to DOE. Bellevue has not yet started theirs and Issaquah will be after them. Each City will have different rules, so it is important to keep an eye on this and see how it develops. More to come.

All my best,

Dwight

Swans and Snow

Posted By Dwight on December 28, 2008

Dec 2008

These trumpeter swans came to visit along with the snows of December. It is unusual for them to come this far south. Last year I saw only two, and just for one day. This year we started with two pair, but after a few days we counted as many as 26 at a time. Our friends on Ames Lake have seen them and I saw 6 in flight over Bellevue near Yarrow Bay just before Christmas.

The snow made it hard for other birds to find food, and easy for us to see the brown ones against the snow. Some of the unusual shore birds we spied were the Common Snipe, with about a 3″ long bill, and many Killdeer. I was also surprised to see two Snow Geese resting on our shore at night. By daylight they were gone and I have not seen any others since. Sorry the photo is not better. This is my first photo post, so I will work on it!

Greetings! My first post:

Welcome to the Builder on the Lake.

I live on Lake Sammamish and build on and around the many wonderful lakes in King County. I do not restrict my work to only waterfront properties, but more and more that has become my focus.

Waterfront homes are special, some would say magical. Something resonates deep in the soul when I am on the lake. Be it mirror like waters at sunset or the crashing waves of a winter storm, each day brings with it a changing view and mood. I love quietly sailing into the wind, and making a fast run through a ski course. Listening to the sound of a trumpeter swan or the splashy noise of my grand kids playing.

On this web page I want to celebrate the many great things about living on a Lake. I also will share information and tips with those who would like to build or remodel waterfront homes.

 All my best,

Dwight Martin, the Builder on the Lake
